70 Years of Excellence in Girls’ Education

As one of just six remaining government all-girls' schools in Victoria, Mentone Girls' Secondary College has been shaping the futures of young women for 70 years – and with increasing enrolments, outstanding results and a new well-being centre on its way, we are looking forward to what the next 70 years will bring.
In 2025, we proudly celebrate this milestone, reflecting on decades of academic excellence, student leadership, and a commitment to empowering the next generation of women. Located in the heart of Bayside, our unique and thriving school community attracts students from across south-east Melbourne, all drawn to the exceptional opportunities available at MGSC.

We understand the power of women

Research consistently highlights the benefits of girls’ schools, where students are encouraged to excel in all areas, free from gender stereotypes. In our classrooms, these young women are at the centre of learning – investigating complex scientific theories, mastering new languages, composing music, and leading their peers to be empowered. Our students develop confidence, resilience, and independence, ensuring they leave MGSC prepared to take on the world.
Special interest camps allow students to expand their horizons, while our nationally recognised Aerobics and Dance program, showcase our commitment to excellence in co-curricular activities. On the field, in the labs, or within the creative spaces, our students shine.

Community is at our heart

Many of our students share deep intergenerational ties to the school, with mothers, aunts and grandmothers having walked the same halls before them. Each year, our Year 7 intake includes students from up to fifty different primary schools, yet they quickly become part of a strong and supportive sisterhood. The friendships and connections formed at MGSC last a lifetime and go beyond our 3194 postcode, contributing to a legacy of successful, inspiring, and empowered alumni.
Mentone Girls’ students graduate with the confidence to lead, the skills to excel, and the mindset to challenge, the status quo and create new pathways. They enter higher education, the workforce, and the broader community future-ready in their chosen field.
Our students are more likely to pursue leadership roles, engage in STEM subjects, and develop the self-assurance to advocate for themselves and others.
As we celebrate 70 years of educating and empowering young women, we invite you to discover what makes Mentone Girls’ Secondary College truly special.

The MGSC school community acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land, the Bunurong people, on which this school is built and we show our respect for elders, past, present and emerging.
