Families considering Year 7 enrolment can use the information below as a guide to the application process.

The Department of Education provides an information pack for families - Moving from primary to secondary school

Families considering MGSC for Years 8 to 12 (or Year 7 mid year application) see General enrolments Year 8 to 12 section for the application form.

Documentation and Proof of Address
MGSC, like all schools, collects information as part of the enrolment process. To verify this information, MGSC may ask for supporting documentation. This checklist details what documents parents and carers must provide. These documents are generally requested after you receive an enrolment offer, except for proof of address and visa documents.
Enrolment Documentation Checklist for Parents and Carers
To progress any application MGSC requires Proof of Address. This is particularly relevant when there are no or limited vacancies at a year level which MGSC is currently experiencing.

Frequently Asked Questions about Placement at Year 7

Below is an overview of the enrolment process for transitioning from Year 6 to Year 7. Applications for Year 7 Placement are accepted in mid May for the following year.

Information for parents/carers on moving from primary school to secondary school can be found on the Department of Education and Training website Moving from primary school to secondary school: information for parents.
When applying to MGSC the steps may vary depending on where your child currently attends school.
This fact sheet gives an overview.

Moving from a government primary school

Your transition will be managed by your current primary school. They will provide the Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information Pack (government schools) which includes application forms which should be returned to your primary school.

Moving from a non-government (includes Catholic) primary school or home schooling

Many of our local Catholic schools will manage your child's transition including providing the relevant Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Information Pack (non-government schools) and request applications be returned to that primary school. If this is not the case or your daughter attends an independent school or is home schooling then the pack and forms can be downloaded from Moving from primary to secondary school page and the application returned directly to MGSC. (Post, hand-delivery or mentone.girls.sc@education.vic.gov.au)

Placement Policy and school zones

Our school zone is available on findmyschool.vic.gov.au which hosts the most up-to-date information on school zones in Victoria.
Students residing within our school zone are guaranteed a place at our school, which is determined on the basis of your permanent residential address.
Our school manages enrolments using the Placement Policy to ensure that students have access to their designated neighbourhood school and may enrol at another school, if there are available places. This fact sheet gives an overview
This policy prioritises applications when enrolments exceed places available. MGSC has been able to place all applications in recent years.
Please note, there is not a separate 'out-of-zone application' form. Only the Department of Education documents need to be completed and returned.

Follow the Application for Year 7 Placement form instructions

  • Place MGSC as your first preference in section 4B on the application form.
  • Use findmyschool.vic.gov.au to identify your neighbourhood zone.
