Mentone Girls’ Secondary College offers an Enhancement Program for girls who seek a greater academic challenge.

Registration for year 7 2022 has closed. Application support documents required by Friday 14 May.

The Enhancement Program runs from Years 7 to 9 and has been designed to provide students with the opportunity to learn through higher-order thinking, inquiry and rich tasks as part of an enhanced curriculum in English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science. Enhancement Program students work on more complex tasks and learn topics to a greater depth and breadth.

Enhancement Program students also take part in the Instrumental Music and Band Program. They are able to nominate preferences from a range of instruments. No prior musical studies are required. Please note that Instrumental Music lessons cost $500 per year, and instruments can be rented for $200 per year if required.

Application process

The application process has four steps:

1. Edutest registration and testing

2. Application for Year 7, 2022 at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College

3. Submission of forms and grade 5 semester 2 report

4. Interview

Edutest registration has closed.

Parents must register at MGSC Enhancement Edutest registration for the formal test, provided by Edutest. Applications close on Monday 10 May. The testing will be onsite on Saturday 15 May from 8.45am to 12noon. Late applications cannot be processed.

A payment of $83.00 must be made as part of this registration.

Please contact if financial assistance is required, as funding for a limited number of tests can be provided by the school.

Participation in the testing does not guarantee a place in the Enhancement Program. The results of the testing will be made available to all candidates as early as possible.

Due by Friday 14 May

An application for Year 7 Placement 2022 at MGSC is also required. A Transition Information Pack will be distributed through government primary schools or is available on the DET website. More details are on our Enrolment Enquiries page.

Parents must complete the Parent Nomination Form (below).

Please ask your child’s current teacher to complete the Teacher Nomination Form. You may find it easier to copy and paste this link:

All forms can be mailed to the school, delivered to the General Office (175 Balcombe Road, Mentone, 3194) or emailed to

Candidates whose applications and testing results indicate suitability for the Program must take part in an interview. The interviews run for 15-20 minutes, and will take place online via Webex. Parents are invited but are asked not to participate. The majority of interviews will take place between 8am and 7pm throughout June.

Offers will be made by early August at the same time that school offers are made. Candidates who are not initially offered a place in the Program will be added to a wait list, and may be offered a place later in the year if spaces open up.
