House Music Competition
The annual House Music Competition is held in Term 2 in the MGSC Gymnasium. House Music is compulsory attendance for every student in the College. Family and friends are welcome to attend. Students are expected to wear full school uniform and blazers. House Special Choirs and Instrumental Ensembles may accessorise with House colours. House Soloists may wear appropriate performance attire.
House Music is the Music equivalent of the Athletics or Swimming Carnival and provides every student in the College the opportunity to participate in their House choir or band. It is entirely a student directed activity – led by the student House Captains and Conductors with the support of staff House Mentors and House Music Specialists. House Music is one of the only opportunities where students work together across mixed year levels towards a common goal.
Every student in the College will participate in the House Chant and Choral Competition, and the Choral, Soloist and Instrumental sections:
- House Chant – Whole House
- House Chorals – Set Song
- House Chorals – Own Choice
- House Soloist
- House Instrumental – Own Choice
Early in Term 3, students and parents are invited to attend an information session about course selection for the following year.
Year 8 into Year 9
Year 9 into Year 10
Year 10 into VCE & Career Expo
All sessions are held in the Lecture Theatre of the Nina Carr Hall. Students and parents will be assisted to understand the Curriculum Program and the Course Selection Process. Handbooks are distributed.
The Mentone Girls’ Secondary College Presentation Evening will be held at the Robert Blackwood Hall at Monash University on Tuesday 21st November 2017. It is an opportunity to recognise and celebrate the achievements of our students in a wide range of areas, including academic achievement, leadership, community service, music, drama and sport. There are also prizes for outstanding achievement in each Unit 3/4 study. At the conclusion of the evening we farewell our graduating class of 2017 and wish them well in their future endeavours.
This year’s guest speaker is Ms Kylie Watson-Wheeler, General Manager Disney Consumer Products and Retail, Australia and New Zealand.
All families are invited to attend. Complimentary tickets for Presentation Evening must be booked online. Parents should NOT book tickets for students who are receiving awards as they will have allocated seats. Children under 2 do not require a ticket if not occupying a seat however, no prams or strollers will be allowed into the auditorium. The presentation will run approximately two hours.
Examinations for Year 11 & 12 students take place in June and November. The timetable for the VCE examinations can be found at: http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/vce/exams/timetable.html
