Purpose of the Association
The Mentone Girls’ Secondary College Past Students’ Association was established in June 1990. It operates through a small annually elected executive. It is an entirely voluntary organisation. A Staff member of the College acts as College Liaison Officer and is a member of the Committee.
The PSA runs a number of events each year: an Annual dinner in March featuring a past student as keynote speaker and reunions for past students at 5, 10, 15 and 20 years out of College. These events are opportunities for past students to reconnect and also an opportunity to raise funds for the Colleges students’ benefit.
The Association provides financial support for some disadvantaged students who may not be able to participate in certain College activities without some extra help. At times it also provides funds for small items of equipment which can assist a number of students in turn. Our College liaison teacher advises us of these opportunities We are also pleased to sponsor encouragement Awards for Presentation Evening in November.
Keeping in touch
We use the school website to keep past students informed of our events as well as using mailouts for reunions. There is no membership fee for the Association and all past students are considered members. We have a fairly new Facebook page www.facebook.com/MGSC.Past.Students which we encourage you to join which can be used to get in touch with others or make suggestions and ask questions. It is moderated by a Committee member.
We welcome any interested past students, parents or community members to join the Committee which meets every couple of months to plan events and discuss other business.
If you have any queries about the Past Students’ Association please contact: College liaison Carol Duggan on 9581 5200 (MGSC) or Maureen Griffin (PSA) on 0403 174 976.
