Accelerated Courses

Year 11 students undertake 12 Units (6 studies), including English. They can choose to include a Unit 3-4 sequence in the first year of the VCE program. This helps them complete six Unit 3-4 sequences, which improves their ENTER score.

Current Year 10 students interested in undertaking a Unit 3-4 sequence in the first year of their VCE programs should complete the special application form available from provided with the VCE cource handbook.

Students are accepted into accelerated studies based on:

  • Their ability to meet the criteria set out on the application form, and
  • The availability of places within the class (Year 12 students take precedence)

Subject teachers are consulted about the suitability of students for all accelerated courses and students’ achievement records in previous years are also considered. The following studies are not generally suitable for acceleration, and may be considered only in exceptional circumstances:

  • Mathematics
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • English
  • Music
  • Art
  • LOTE

All other studies are considered suitable for acceleration.

Enhancement Study

Year 12 Students undertake 10 Units (5 studies) including any English 3 & 4 sequence. Highly capable students can choose undertake an Enhancement Study as a 6th study, in addition to their VCE studies.

Enhancement Studies are first year University subjects which are offered by a range of universities to Year 12 students. The classes for Enhancement subjects are held after school at a range of sites. They carry credit for a subsequent university course and count as a sixth subject for tertiary selection procedures.

To be considered for Enhancement, students must achieve a designated minimum study score in the related Unit 3-4 VCE study in Year 11. An Enhancement Expression of Interest form is available from the Senior School Office.
