Beginning in 2019, Mentone Girls’ Secondary College will offer an Enhancement Program for girls who seek a greater academic challenge.
The Enhancement Program will run from Years 7 to 9 and will provide students with the opportunity to learn through higher-order thinking, inquiry and rich tasks as part of an enhanced curriculum in English, Mathematics, Humanities and Science. Students will have access to a number of co-curricular activities such as the Tournament of Minds, Writers’ Festival, History Challenge and others. Rather than accelerating or compacting curriculum, students in the Enhancement Program will work on more complex tasks and will learn topics to a greater depth and breadth.
The Program will thoroughly prepare students for one or two Unit 1 & 2 subjects in Year 10.
The application process has four stages:
1. Submission of forms, reports and NAPLAN results
2. Application for Year 7, 2019 at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College
3. Edutest registration and testing
Submission of Forms
Parents must complete the Parent Nomination form. It is requested but not compulsory that your child’s current teacher completes the Teacher Nomination form. In addition, we ask that you submit .pdf versions of students’ most recent school reports and NAPLAN results. These forms must be submitted by Friday 25 May.
All forms can be mailed to the school or delivered to the General Office (Corner Balcombe & Charman Roads, Mentone, 3194) or emailed to email@example.com
Application to study at Mentone Girls’ Secondary College
Candidates must apply to Mentone Girls’ Secondary College in the standard way. The Southern Metropolitan Region has not yet released its Application Form for Enrolment for Year 7, 2019. This information will be update as soon as the forms are released. It is expected that these forms must be submitted to your primary school by Friday 11 May.
Edutest Registration and Testing
Parents must register at MGSC Enhancement Edutest registration for the formal test, provided by Edutest. The testing will take place on Saturday 19 May; applications close on Monday 14 May. Late applications cannot be processed.
A payment of $77 must be made as part of this registration. Please contact firstname.lastname@example.org if financial assistance is required, as funding for a limited number of tests can be provided by the school. Please note that photo ID is required for the testing.
Participation in the testing does not guarantee a place in the Enhancement Program. The results of the testing will be made available to all candidates as early as possible.
Candidates whose applications and testing results indicate suitability for the Program must then take part in an interview with the Principal, Assistant Principal or Director of Curriculum. Students are requested to bring in a recent piece of work that demonstrates their skills and interests. The interview will run for 15-20 minutes; parents may be present but are asked not to participate. Parents will be contacted by a staff member to arrange an interview time. Please bear in mind that the interview times are on a “first in” basis. The majority of interviews will take place during the school day throughout June.
Offers will be made by early August. Candidates who are not initially offered a place in the Program will be added to a waitlist, and may be offered a place later in the year.
